Letter Free Phonics-Deluxe By Preschool University      Free

Each time a piece is moved correctly, the app will say the sound that is at the beginning of the featured image - the /c/ sound at the beginning of the word, cat. The combination of a letter sound with an image is designed to train your child’s ear and brain to recognize and associate each image with its corresponding beginning sound. This is to introduce to your child the understanding of how words are made up of sounds.
The third game of this app has the child discerning which images begin with the featured sound. The child needs to decide which three of the seven images displayed begin with the /d/ sound (doll, dish and diver are good, but car, hat, fish and vest are bad).

First, children watch a video that introduces the sound and its letter through a silly alliterative sentence with a beautifully illustrated picture. Next, children are shown how the letters should be written and given the opportunity to trace the letters on the screen while saying the sound along with helpful self-talk. Then children are asked to compare two simple words that usually only differ by one sound, the target sound. For example, which word starts with /s/? Sad or dad? Children get to hear the words and select a picture for the correct answer, all while looking at the letter in question.

Cambugs Letter Sounds Schools                   £1.99

Cambugs Letter Sounds teaches children the initial phonemes (letter sounds) which are the first step on their journey to become fluent, confident readers.~It has been developed by educational psychologists and parents, working in partnership with the University of Cambridge resulting in an app where parents/teachers and children work together.
Cambugs Letter Sounds is targeted at pre-readers, as well as struggling older readers. It uses evidence-based techniques that research has shown helps children develop their reading skills. Children engage in lots of repetition - this is because it is a very effective strategy for ensuring that children remember and retain the sounds that they learn. Cambugs Letter Sounds also has a timed test for ensuring the child is able to remember letter sounds quickly and fluently - as fluency is a key skill needed for becoming a confident reader.

Cambugs First Words                             £1.99
Cambugs First Words includes four activities:
Sorting: Sort words into two piles (words your child knows and words that have yet to be learned ). This initial activity ensures the app is personalised to meet the specific learning needs of your child.
Learning: Children learn a new word alongside words that they know already. This is called ‘interleaved learning’ and ensures your child remembers their words.
Timed Test: Children are timed to see how quickly they can say each word. The app automatically puts words that your child has not yet learned fluently back in the unknown pile to be re-learned at a later date. If your child likes the competitive element of the timed test, switch on the “Time Challenge”.
Bug Collection: Your child can add new bugs in their collection whenever they learn new words and they can visit this and interact/play with them at any time!

Cambugs Phonics                         £1.99
Cambugs Phonics teaches children to say graphemes (such as ‘ch’ and ‘ue’). This is the second step on their journey to become fluent, confident readers — following the previous app.
